Mini-HDMI and Micro-HDMI are both fading out and replaced by MHL.
MHL- standard for how a device talks video out to another device.
Ensure the device runs MHL as there are still issues with it.

Touring Android
Free open operating system. Has an sdk and you can create your own apps. You can change use a different launcher for your android phone. Google Play Store is for Apps for the Android environment. Configure through the settings. “Okay google.” Google Pay.
Touring IOS
Invented the smartphone. Robust, safe, intuitive. Closed operating system but can still create apps with an sdk. Use settings for any configuration. App store for programs. Siri.
Touring Windows mobile
Windows designed specifically for a mobile phone. Settings for any configuration. Closed source.
Cellular configuration
CDMA- older technology invented in US, does not have a SIM, they have firmware.
Android phone- Settings -> about phone -> status -> prl (prl is preferred roaming list) update your prl and roaming capabilities.
Android esn- Settings -> phone -> status, esn was how we used to identify phones, now it is meid which phones use now to identify on the network. Min is mobile identification number, and identifies once it goes to a certain geographical area. CDMA need activation and firmware updates. IMSI values identify you and that is when people can track you.
GSM- newer and most widely used. Has a SIM card. Settings -> about device -> status -> imei, international mobile station equipment is the identifier for a phone on a GSM network. Go to your dialer and type in “*#06” to receive your IMEI. IMSI is international mobile describer identity, you cannot get to it.
Wireless mobile connections

Connect to 802.11- settings -> connections -> wifi turn on -> find wifi to connect.
Leaving Wifi kills battery but many options do more.
Connect to Bluetooth- settings -> bluetooth turn on
Connect to Cellular- mobile networks -> turn data on or off
Connect to Hotspot- hot spot makes a phone act like a WAP with a cellular access point. Settings -> enable hotspot -> set ssid, encryption and shared key.
Tethering uses a wired connection between the phone and the computer, it is difficult to hack. Plug cable into phone and computer, go to settings -> tethering and portable hotspot -> turn on tethering
Connect to NFC- quick to connect, low speed connection, can be custom designed. Settings -> connections -> NFC and payment turned on. It can facilitate phone to phone data transfer
Wifi direct acts like bluetooth and 802.11 and creates a temporary ad-hoc network between nfc devices.
Connect to Infrared- works for most remote controls such as tv control.
Mobile devices and email
Website emails, pop3/IMAP emails, microsoft exchange server.
(IOS) Settings -> mail, contact, calendars -> add an account
Website email- Settings -> accounts -> add account
Pop3/IMAP email- settings -> add account -> choose pop3 or IMAP -> type in address and password -> Choose security type and port, SMTP server needs to be setup for outgoing server.
Microsoft Exchange is microsoft email server- settings -> account -> email address and password
MIME- email typically is suppose to send ASCII characters, MIME helps by converting other formats into text. S/MIME is secure MIME, you need a certificate

Allows us to update information to be across many devices

Syncing with Apple- itunes/sync with desktop or connect through Cloud
Syncing with Windows Mobile- need to sync with Cloud by using Microsoft Outlook

There is no anti-malware. Find my Iphone to locate your phone and you can remote wipe. A remote backup is done with iCloud setup.
Updates and patches can be done in Itune or on Iphone through App updates.
